Teacher Expresses Political Biases

My son’s U.S. history teacher is very biased. When it comes to current events in this high-school class, the teacher supports the views of one political party and always knocks the views of the other. Plus, he makes fun of students who support the opposite views. How would you handle this? — For Fairness
Answer: High-school teachers have the job of teaching their students how to think — not what to think. Admittedly, a few step over the line and give a one-sided view of current events. This teacher is not likely to moderate his views, but a group of students could try to talk to him and request a more balanced approach. You also could ask for a conference with this teacher along with his department head or counselor. Point out that your child finds this teacher’s approach upsetting. You will make your point best if you are not inflammatory in your remarks.
