My daughter, a senior in high school, is off to college in the fall. Ever since she got accepted to the state university, she has been goofing off in school. Her grades have been falling, and she even skips classes. How can I convince her to stop slacking? -- Dismayed
Answer: What your daughter has is the very common "senioritis." You could remind her that final grades have still to be sent to her college and her admission could be revoked if they have dropped too far. Admittedly, this doesn't happen too often. The biggest danger is that her slacker attitude could carry over to her freshman year. Also, what she doesn't learn this year, she might have to learn in college -- possibly in a remedial class.
