How Kindergarten Age Affected Later Schooling: Opinions

In a column last month, you had letters from parents telling about how their children's ages when they entered kindergarten affected their experiences later on in school. These letters supported your view that there is no one perfect age for entering school.
Answer: We asked young adults to tell us how their age when they entered kindergarten affected their schooling so you could see the issue from another point of view.
Right in the Middle: I was nicely surrounded by older and younger students the whole way through school. It was probably ideal. I always had the feeling that my age was just right. I was a good student and athlete and had a generally good social life.
Very Young: I was always the youngest kid in my class all the way through school. This never had any real impact on me, even though I was the last person in my class to drive. I also was the smallest in my class but was athletic. It might have been tough if I had been a boy. There were never any academic problems, as I was always at the top of my class.
Quite Old: I always felt comfortable with my age in school. It may have played a slight role with my confidence level in both sports and academics, as I was far more mature than many of my friends. It also brought the benefit of driving prior to many of my high-school friends.
Summer Birthday: It upset me to see all my friends getting privileges that I couldn't have because my parents thought of me as younger than they were. However, I also saw what my friends did wrong with their privileges and was able to avoid doing those things.
Made the Cutoff by a Day: Everything worked out fine academically, and in sports, too, as I was large for my age. Socially, I was just too young. I never went out with boys until I was a senior in high school and went to the prom. And when I went to get a job after graduation, I appeared too young to the people interviewing me so I went to grad school, which led to my getting a great job one year later.
Summer Birthday: I'm so glad that I started school when I was just 5. If my parents had waited, I'd have felt stupid later on knowing that I had been held back.
Fall Birthday: I did not feel too old or young in my class. I am glad that I was not 18 when I was a junior in high school, like some of my classmates. That's too old. I was not above or below the learning curve.
Very Old in my Class: I was 10 months older than many of my classmates because of the late cutoff date at my school. This was a big advantage in sports that let me play varsity athletics from the day I entered high school. Academically, I was usually bored but would probably have been bored even if I were younger.
