I was just elected class president of my eighth-grade class in middle school. I know nothing about holding this position. What do I need to do to be successful? -- President
Answer: Congratulations, you must have run a great campaign. Your biggest help in doing a first-class job will be the teacher or administrator who is the class adviser. This individual will know what previous class presidents have done as well as what limitations are placed on class activities by the school. Talk to this person before meeting with the other class officers.
When you meet with the other officers, remember that you are part of a team. Always listen to their ideas. At your first meeting, try to set your goals for the year and to discuss what class activities would appeal to your classmates. Be careful to consult with your adviser before firming up your activities.
