Starting a New School Year Right

How can our family get the new school year started right? - Starting Out
Answer: Every fall, parents and children dream of having a super year at school. It certainly helps if children have teachers who are truly on their wavelength, understand how they learn, and want to work closely with you. And it is another plus if you and your children have resolved most of the school-related issues that have caused any family friction in the past.
You can start this year off right by making sure you attend all school functions in the fall. This is when the relationships with your children's teachers are established. Good relationships pay big dividends.
Be sure to go to back-to-school nights so that you understand the plans and expectations your children's teachers have for the year. This is when you'lldiscover how and when the teachers expect you to help your children. You also should get a good idea of what your children will be studying. Plus, you will find out each teacher's grading and behavior standards and be able to help your children avoid problems in these areas through talking them over.
Your children have a large responsibility for the success of the school year. Older children know where they fell short last year. And most will want to turn things around. Total makeovers rarely happen; however, changes can occur if children spell out how they want to change, and their parents help them find ways to change. Great results can come from something so simple as studying for an hour every day.
