My daughter attends a rural elementary school. She's in third grade now and reading on grade level but doing math at the first-grade level. She was diagnosed with central auditory processing disorder at 3 and has had physical, occupational and speech therapies. Although she still processes slower than the average student, she is further along academically now and says she is bored and would like to be homeschooled. Her last class was very rambunctious, which upset her. I have applied to several magnet schools, but they are overcrowded and loud. What is the best type of schooling for her? -- Indecisive
Answer: Your child still has processing problems and is not working on grade level in math. Hopefully, the school has developed a plan to help her overcome these difficulties. If not, you need to insist that they do. This is required by public law. You should be working with a team to address her special needs. Together you should be able to assess how best to help her.
