When Should School Papers Come Home?

Some teachers, like the ones mentioned last month in the column, keep all graded papers from going home until the grading period is over because, without fail, there will be parents who come in screaming that there is "No Way" their child earned these grades and the teacher must just have it in for the child.
The only surefire way to make believers out of such parents is to show a folder full of half-finished exams and D and F graded homework. And for parents who truly want to see how their child is progressing, viewing several months of work at once allows them to discuss trends in what has gone on well or poorly in the past grading period. -- Like this System
Answer: We prefer the daily or weekly return of papers so parents know all along how their children are doing. Many teachers also keep a portfolio of children's work that will clearly show parents the quality of their children's work.
