Reading Screening Tool

I think that my child has made good progress in acquiring early reading skills. Beyond my own opinion, is there some test that I can give her to reassure myself that her skill level is appropriate for a 4-year-old child? -- Needs Reassurance
Answer: Fortunately for you, there is a great screening tool that will let you find out quickly how well your daughter is doing in acquiring the literacy skills needed to become a reader. It is the Get Ready to Read! screening tool. It was developed by top reading researchers in conjunction with the National Center for Learning Disabilities. You will find it online at www.getreadytoread.org.
The test is designed to be used twice by parents and early education providers in the year before children enter kindergarten. There is a guide to scoring and interpreting the screening tool. In addition, look on the site for supportive materials for getting your child ready to read. There are a variety of materials including activity cards and online games.
