Parent Doesn't Want Teaching Responsibility

As I am a mother of a 16-year-old, 5-year-old kindergartener and an 18-month-old, I have seen the changes that have gone on during the past 10 years. Children now are taught how to read, write, add and subtract all by the time they are halfway through kindergarten. This makes me crazy. I have no patience to try to teach, this is why I am not in a school teaching children these things. So why is it that our children now are bringing homework home that I, in turn, have to try to teach them how to do?
What really irritates me, though, is the time spent on preparing for standardized testing! It is stuff the children should already know; they should not have to crunch for such a test. -- Just My Two Cents
Answer: You definitely have a valid point. Children should do most of their learning in school. Parents who have put in a full eight to 10 hours on their jobs should not be expected to arrive home and then take over the role of teacher -- not to mention being mom or dad and fixing meals, washing the clothes and so on. Preparing for standardized tests should be ongoing work, not cramming sessions.
