Overcoming Weaknesses

What type of extra homework should I be giving my child to help correct some of his weaknesses? - Want to Help
Answer: Giving more homework doesn't usually correct weaknesses, and it sure isn't received enthusiastically by children. But there are a few exceptions. Doing more math story problems than are assigned can help children who are having difficulty in this area. The more story problems children do, the better they learn how to solve them. Also, weak readers can improve their skills by reading and re-reading a lesson until it can be read easily.
To correct most weaknesses, it is a good idea to work with a child's teacher to discover what help you, the teacher, a tutor or a learning center can provide to turn things around. The sooner any weakness is overcome, the better children do in school.
