Next semester, I'll be starting online courses for teacher certification while I am working my night audit job. Any advice that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. - Online Learner
Answer: You have to think of an online course in much the same way as you would any college campus class. Employ the same organizational and study skills. Don't cut any classes. Get your reading done on time so you don't have a rush at the end of the semester to finish it before the final exam. If a class does not have a scheduled time, make sure you set a definite time for viewing the class, and keep to this time.
Much of what you learn about a subject in campus classrooms comes from the discussions between the instructor and the students. It's the same story with online learning. Do participate in question-and-answer sessions in chat rooms. If there is a bulletin board, read it to learn about the concerns of the other students.
There are two additional skills that come in handy: It will certainly help if you are a fast and proficient typist. Plus, make sure that you have the Internet and computer skills necessary to handle the courses you will be taking. In addition, be sure that you have all the hardware and software needed to take online courses from your school.
