Homeschooling a Poor Option for this Student

I am not going to be able to graduate this June because I've made some bad choices. I hate being in high school with so many other kids. Would homeschooling be a good option for me? Would it let me graduate with my class if I really worked hard? I want your advice because I am tired of listening to my parents and the counselors at my school. - Want to Graduate Answer: Your parents and the counselors at your high school know you. Please consider their advice. At this point, you might think that homeschooling is an easy road to getting a diploma. It isn't. You would need to find someone who was willing to homeschool you and with whom you could work well. Plus, high schools generally do not give homeschoolers diplomas unless they have programs set up to do this. To get a diploma, you would need to work with a special program or a private school that offers diplomas to home-schoolers. You probably should be thinking about other ways than homeschooling to get a diploma. One choice that works for many students who do not do well in traditional high schools is the alternative high school. If your school district has one, it could be the best way for you to earn a diploma. You could get a diploma this year through a correspondence school, but it would require a great deal of self-discipline, as well as parental support, to get it done on time. Other ways to get a diploma include online and independent-study high schools, the G.E.D. and high-school equivalency exams that many states offer. Also, would going to summer school or taking classes at a community college help you earn enough credits to get a diploma this year? Do remember this: Now is the time to get a high-school diploma, no matter how difficult it might seem to you. Without a diploma, many college and career options will evaporate.
