Games to Help Learn Multiplication Facts

My 9-year-old boy is having a few problems memorizing his multiplication facts. Is there a computer game that I can purchase to help him? At the end of last year, he tested at the third-grade level in math. I would like to make his math stronger for fourth grade. -- Improvement Needed
Answer: Games can be helpful in learning multiplication facts. But it isn't really necessary to purchase one for your child. Just go online and search for "multiplication games." You'll find an abundance of them. Plus, ask his teacher for suggestions.
You also should look for sites online that offer timed practice activities. It would be smart for your son to visit these sites as well as game sites. Multiplication facts cannot be considered solidly learned until a student can provide an answer in less than three seconds.
Your son may need more practice with multiplication facts than just playing games and doing practice activities. It could be very helpful for him to learn some strategies that will help him get the answers to troublesome facts. For example, to solve 4 x 6, he can draw four vertical lines and cross them with six horizontal lines. Counting the intersections will give him the answer (24).
