Science Activities

I would like to have more science activities to do with my children this summer. - Summer Science
Answer: Here are three more science activities. You'll find loads more on this Web site if you search for "science activities."
Summer Science Activity 1: This week introduce your children to surface tension by having them investigate how many drops of water they can drop one at a time on a coin before the water spills off its surface. Use a clean coin and an eyedropper for this experiment. Then repeat the experiment using soapy water, and compare the results.
Summer Science Activity 2: Help your children understand how animals can camouflage themselves so they are difficult to see. Use two sheets of construction paper of three different colors. Cut one sheet of each color into 2-inch squares and place them randomly on the other sheets without your children watching you. When you are done, ask them to gather as many squares as they can in 5 seconds. They will probably gather the squares of contrasting colors to the ones beneath them.
Summer Science Activity 3: Help your children find out if a food is an acid or a base by using the liquid from a jar of pickled red cabbage. They should place some of the liquid in several saucers before adding very small bits of food or juice. If the food turns pink, it is an acid. If it turns greenish-blue, it is a base.
