My daughter has been attending a Montessori school for two years that for the first time this year had a kindergarten program. It was definitely not your "typical" public-school atmosphere. My question is whether to put her into the public-school elementary kindergarten to acclimate her to a "public school" environment or to have her wait until first grade. -- Need to Make a Decision
Answer: Enroll your daughter in first grade at the public school and relax. She will adjust to the public-school system along with all the other students in her first-grade class. Many of them will have attended kindergartens other than the one in your school district. Your daughter has already had the kindergarten experience. If you put her back in kindergarten, it would be more like retention than a period of acclimation.
You need to make sure that you attend all the start-of-the-school-year functions so that you know what is going on at your child's school. If it appears from any of the work that she brings home or first report card that she is having any trouble with the academics, talk with the teacher immediately to find out what needs to be done to help her keep up with her classmates.
Another possible solution: Have you looked for a charter school in your school district that is Montessori? That would definitely solve your dilemma.
