Improving Organization and Content of an Essay

Please find a few other suggestions, besides reading essays aloud, as good ways to improve the organization and content of an essay:
-NEVER try to re-read on-screen. Somehow even the best writers' brains freeze over when they do.
-Spell check and grammar check can be VERY misleading and unreliable. Consider them as warnings that something might be wrong.
-The best help for spelling, even in these days, is the dictionary.
-What helped many, many of my students was to train themselves to read every letter in every word and every single punctuation mark.
-Concentrate for several minutes each day on looking closely at a piece of good prose. This ensures the best results in making spelling, sentence structure and punctuation become part of one's unconscious mind.
-The really dedicated student can try to put into his or her own words something short, such as a legal document, sonnet or technical document.
