Answer: If your young child has difficulty speaking at times or tends to hesitate on or repeat certain syllables, words or phrases, the child may or may not have a stuttering problem. The child may only be going through a period of normal disfluency that most children experience as they learn to speak. To find out just about everything there is to know about stuttering, go online to www.stutteringhelp.org or call 1-800-992-9392. The Stuttering Foundation also has great information for schoolchildren, teachers and adults to help them deal with stuttering problems. Online, you and your children can watch two new streaming videos: "Stuttering For Kids, By Kids" and "Stuttering and Your Child: Help for Parents."
