I dropped out of high school last year and now realize that it is the stupidest thing I have ever done. How can I get a diploma? I really want to go back to school. -- Dropout
Answer: Don't walk -- run to the high school to find out all the options that are open to you. You need to have a serious talk with a counselor or administrator who knows you well.
We certainly don't know why you dropped out. Nevertheless, you need to think carefully about the reasons you dropped out and whether or not you are likely to want to stay in school this time. Remember, the atmosphere at the school will not have changed. Has your attitude changed?
If you believe that returning to high school might not be successful, there are many other ways in which you can earn a diploma. A traditional high school is not right for all students. Your district might have an alternative school that is a better choice for you.
You also have the opportunity to get a GED diploma, which is commonly called a high-school equivalency diploma. To do this, you have to pass a battery of GED tests. This is not an easy route to a diploma. You can find out more about the GED from school counselors and by visiting www.acenet.edu and searching for "GED."
