Algebra Student Struggling

Our daughter is currently taking algebra in eighth grade. I was against this, but the school thought that she had the ability to do so. She is close to flunking. What can be done to avoid a disaster? -- Need a Solution
Answer: You need to talk with the algebra teacher about the options open to your daughter and which one is probably the best. Your daughter should have input into any decision that is made. The child might be able to drop the class and start algebra again next year. She might also continue and plan to retake the class if she can't bring up her grade. Or a tutor might be able to help her complete the class satisfactorily.
When eighth-graders first started taking algebra, only the students who were quite advanced in math were taking the class before high school. The push to challenge more students by putting them in eighth-grade algebra has resulted in a great number of students with weak math skills being placed in this class.
