Rules for Playing Dominoes to Improve Skills

Could you please elaborate on the rules for playing dominoes using different multiples? It sounded like a good way to improve my kids' math skills. - Not a Domino Player
Answer: Most domino sets will have the rules for playing dominoes and scoring with multiples of 5 in such games as Muggins, All Fives and Five-Up. You can also get this information online by searching for "domino rules."
Basically, in the 5's game, players score points when a play results in the open ends of the dominoes in the line of play adding up to a multiple of 5. One point is scored for 5, two for 10, three for 15, and so on. If you play the game using a multiple other than 5, points are awarded in a similar way. For example, if the multiple is 4, one point would be scored for a total of 4, two for 8, and three for 12. In this game, laying down a double 2 domino at the start of the game would score one point.
Start your children off by having them play dominoes with multiples of 5. Then move on to multiples of 3 and 4. You can make an even more challenging game by awarding points for both multiples of 3 and multiples of 5.
