If your child is looking for college scholarships, be sure to help him or her avoid scholarship scams. When searching online, your child should avoid Web sites that advertise:

• Receiving a scholarship is guaranteed or your money is refunded.
• The organization will do all the work.
• They are finalists in a contest that they never entered.
• This information is not available any other place.

Both unscrupulous and many legitimate companies do advertise that they can find scholarships for an advance fee. However, legitimate companies will never guarantee scholarships or grants.
